Gastric Botox is an endoscopic procedure in which botulinum toxin is injected into the stomach muscles to slow stomach emptying and prolong the feeling of fullness.
How is it done?
- It is done under sedation with an endoscope passed through the mouth.
- No incision or surgery is needed; it is short.
- You usually return to daily life quickly.
Its effect and limits
- The effect is temporary and may last a few months.
- It does not by itself bring lasting weight loss; it needs support from diet and lifestyle change.
- It may not suit everyone; health status must be assessed.
Other non-surgical options
- Gastric balloon: a balloon placed in the stomach and removed after a set time
- Nutrition and behaviour programmes
- Medication treatment (under a physician's supervision)
Which option?
The choice is made after assessing body mass index, accompanying conditions and goals. For severe obesity, surgical methods may be more suitable.
