A graft is a single group of hair follicles; one graft can hold one to four hairs. The number needed varies from person to person.
What decides the number
- The area and degree of hair loss
- The density and quality of the donor area (usually the back and sides)
- Hair type: thickness, curl and colour contrast
- The target density and hairline design
Are more grafts always better?
No. The donor area is limited, and taking too much can leave a permanently thin look. The physician plans for today's need and possible future hair loss together.
The right number becomes clear after hair analysis and examination; a preliminary look from photos only gives an idea.
